Vinod Kumar Shukla, one of the most influential voices in modern Hindi literature and the recipient of the 2024 Jnanpith Award, passed away in Raipur on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. He was 88. Shukla, whose quiet yet profound literary style reshaped contemporary Hindi prose and poetry, died while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur.

According to hospital officials, Shukla breathed his last at 4:58 p.m. AIIMS spokesperson Dr. Laxmikant Choudhary confirmed that the cause of death was multiple organ infection and failure.
